Alberta has just welcomed Pragmatic Play into its recently regulated market amid much fanfare. We examine what this top-tier software provider will deliver in terms of games and which outstanding online casinos will feature their superb offerings.
Pragmatic Play has become the latest major supplier to enter Alberta's newly regulated online gambling market. Following its successful rollout in Ontario, the provider is continuing its Canadian expansion by bringing its popular slots, live casino games and game shows to Alberta's licensed operators.
For local casino fans, it means access to one of the industry's largest game libraries from day one.
Pragmatic Play's arrival follows Alberta's launch of a competitive regulated online gambling market. As Canada's second open iGaming jurisdiction after Ontario, the province now allows licensed suppliers and operators to compete for players under a regulated framework.
For years, Alberta only offered legal online gambling through the government-run Play Alberta platform. However, many residents still used offshore or ”grey market" sites to get their online gaming thrills, which meant that gambling revenue left the province.
To address this revenue flight, Alberta introduced legislation creating a competitive regulated market. Licensed private operators can now enter the province under the supervision of the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission (AGLC).
Since the market opened on July 13, all operators must register with the AGLC and sign a commercial agreement with Alberta iGaming Corporation (AiGC).
The AGLC oversees licensing and regulatory compliance, while AiGC manages commercial agreements, financial reporting and anti-money laundering responsibilities.
Alberta is the latest step in Pragmatic Play's continued Canadian market expansion. Following its success in Ontario, the supplier is now positioned to reach another large regulated audience with its extensive portfolio of online casino games.
Alberta players will now have access to Pragmatic Play's expansive gaming catalogue alongside content from other leading suppliers, including Play'n GO, EveryMatrix and Gaming Corps, who have also been approved in the province.
Sharon McHugh, Director of PR at Pragmatic Play, noted the company’s bullish outlook, saying:
“Alberta represents an exciting new adventure for regulated iGaming in Canada, and Pragmatic Play is delighted to be among the first suppliers bringing premium entertainment to operators and their players from day one.”
The launch reinforces Pragmatic Play's commitment to expanding its presence in Canada's rapidly growing iGaming market, while ensuring compliance with evolving regulatory requirements.
Pragmatic Play has become one of the world's largest casino game suppliers by offering almost every major game type through a single integration, including:
Because the entire portfolio is available through a single API, operators can quickly add the software providers' games to their casino lobbies. That gives Alberta players immediate access to hundreds of certified titles.
Popular releases such as Fury of Anubis, Big Bass Blast and the Gates of Olympus series have already been certified for the province, alongside Pragmatic Play's live casino portfolio and other table games.
