Kahnawake Gaming Commission

Based in Southern Quebec, the Kahnawake Gaming Commission has attempted to fill the gambling regulatory void that currently exists in Canada.

Online gambling is still a new industry, dating back only to the mid 1990s. Because it is so new, the law has not yet caught up to the reality of gaming online. This has left a regulatory void, and private enterprises have tried to fill it.

The Kahnawake Gaming Commission, based on the Kahnawake Mohawk Reserve of Southern Quebec, is one such private regulator. Under the laws of the Mohawk Territory of Kahnawake, the Gaming Commission is empowered to regulate and control gambling activities in, or operating from, the reserve.

In practical terms, the commission licenses online casinos and provides servers for their operation. casinos served by the commission must meet three basic conditions: that they are suitable to operate as an online casino; that they offer fair games; and that winnings are paid out honestly.
