Amidst all the controversy there is some good news for PokerStars, with the online poker room giant this week renewing its sponsorship with one of the biggest teams in the National Hockey League.

Maple Leafs Say 'Yes' to Poker

The Toronto Maple Leafs, owned and operated by Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment, renewed its sponsorship agreement with PokerStars' free-to-play brand, PokerStars.net, the club announced.

As part of the agreement - which was signed for an undisclosed sum - PokerStars.net advertisements will appear on the rinkboards for all 81 Maple Leafs' home games throughout the 2011/12 season.

PokerStars and Hockey - What a Match!

We think the combination of the best card game around with the fastest game on ice is a fantastic idea, and we're not the only ones - Team PokerStars Pro player and proud Canadian Daniel Negreanu said the deal brought together his country's "national pastime" with poker, "which has surged in popularity as Canadians have begun to excel on the international stage."

He added, "I have played hockey my whole life and grew up watching the Toronto Maple Leafs, which is why I am excited that PokerStars.net is a sponsor. It is a great relationship and allows the world's largest online poker school to team up with an iconic franchise to deliver exceptional promotions for poker and hockey fans."
