Canadian Online Gambling Body Goes Green

Canada's Kahnawake Gaming Commission is about to lend its hand to a good cause, with news that it plans to use online gaming revenue to fund a multi-million dollar wind farm project in Quebec.

The regulatory body, which is based just outside of Montreal, has joined hands with the British energy company that is planning to manufacture the farm, in a bid to get it approved by the local council and by Hydro Quebec.

Some $68 million will be spent on construction of the farm, which is slated to be built in the small town of Shore Saint Cyprien de Napierville.

Originally the proposal was rejected, but the hope is that with Kahnawake Mohawks now involved, the program will be resubmitted with a better chance of passing.

The Kahnawake Gaming Commission has been licensing and regulating online gaming for more than 11 years, making it the longest-standing body of its kind anywhere in the world.

It covers all gaming activity in the Mohawk Territory of Kahnawake, an Indian reserve on the south shore of the St. Lawrence River, and oversees a total of 55 authorized client providers.
