Big Prizes Continue at WSOP

The big prizes continue to be awarded at the 2010 World Series of Poker in Las Vegas, with 23 of the 57 tournaments now completed in world poker's biggest event.

In the biggest tournament of the past week, poker pro Jason DeWitt beat out 791 other competitors to win the $818,959 first prize in the $5,000 No Limit Hold'em tourney.

Other big names to win tournaments were Erich Buchman, Carter Phillips and John Barch.

On a more controversial note, WSOP Communications Director Seth Palansky told online poker site Card Player that men who entered the $1,000 No Limit Ladies Hold'em Championship (eventually won by Vanessa Hellebuyck) could be suspended or banned from future WSOP events.

At least half-a-dozen men played in the ladies tournament, an act they could not be legally prevented from doing.

"We can't prevent anyone from entering a ladies tournament. If they're scumbags, they're scumbags," Palansky told Card Player. "The good news is at the World Series of Poker, we have the right to refuse service to anyone at any time at any point that we deem, as operators of the event."

Meanwhile, Oscar winners Matt Damon and Ben Affleck have confirmed they will once again participate in the annual WSOP Ante up for Africa charity tournament, which will take place on July 3.
